BUTZBACH LIONS  AS GUESTS OF EASTBOURNE LIONS  -

OCTOBER 2011

This is exactly what took place when five members of Lions Club Butzbach (near Frankfurt) in Germany, together with their partners, visited us here in Eastbourne for a long weekend  This was our visitors second visit to Eastbourne as Guests of our club, the first being in 2009.

Friday - Our German friends were met at Heathrow Airport on a beautiful sunny October day and arrived in Eastbourne for a buffet reception/reunion at The Lamb Inn, Old Town. After much talk and recollections of previous visits we experienced an fascinating tour of the cellars and an interesting history lesson from our expert guide.

Saturday - We split up to take our Guests to various places of interest in our locality some travelling in cars and some in the Minibus kindly on loan from our neighbouring club at Uckfield. Places visited included: Pevensey Castle, Battle Abbey, Bodiam Castle, Brighton, Beachy Head and more. Our evening venue was The Royal Oak at Barcombe where a knockout Skittles Competition followed a typical pub buffet meal.

Sunday - An all day visit to The Amberley Heritage Museum near Arundel provided  a fascinating and nostalgic trip down memory lane. This prompted a number of conversations that started with "Do you remember ..........?" and the obvious response "No I wasn't born then!". The day concluded with an excellent dinner at The English Wine Centre followed by suitable words of friendship by Eastbourne Lion President Alison. This prompted an equally suitable response from Butzbach Lion President Rainer in which he expressed his club's thanks and appreciation together with an invitation to our club to visit Butzbach again in 2012, .

Monday -  After fond farewells and repeated thanks our German Lions friends were taken in to Eastbourne for last minute shopping. Then it was in to the Minibus and back to Heathrow for the afternoon flight home to Frankfurt.
