EQUIPMENT FOR LOCAL HOSPITAL (Eastbourne District General)

In January 2009 the club presented a cheque for £9,275 to The Eastbourne District General Hospital to cover the cost of a CO2 Laser MicroManipulator.

The MicroManipulator is a specialised attachment for the laser used in ENT surgery and will be housed at the Eastbourne District General Hospital and used up to twice a week. Its use will be mainly in conjunction with patients with throat cancer, particularly of the larynx and the pharynx although other patients with benign conditions on the vocal cords will also benefit.

The instrument allows the surgeon to align the laser beam with greater accuracy thus giving patients receiving laser treatment on the vocal cords a better voice result.

Consultant ENT surgeon Nick Violaris said "This generous gift from the Lions will greatly improve the degree of accuracy that is quite essential when using laser treatment of patients with ENT related cancers and other non malignant conditions"

The Lions are most grateful for the generosity of the people of Eastbourne and the surrounding area who have supported us in our various Fund Raising events, in particular our 2008 Christmas Collections.
