SWIMATHON 2011

Swimathon 2011 Swimathon 2011

Saturday 15th October was the date that our annual 'Swimathon' once again provided people in the Eastbourne area with an opportunity to raise money for their chosen charity or worthy cause.

Now, 21 years on from our first Swimathon in 1992, the event has come of age attracting beginners and proficient swimmers from the surrounding area.

Entrants consisted of a mixture of Teams and Individuals aiming to swim as many 25 metre lengths of Eastbourne's Sovereign Centre Gala Pool as possible in 20 minutes.

Before the event swimmers obtained sponsorship for each length that they swim and friends and family Spectators cheered them on 'on the night'.

Early in the new year, after all money has been collected from the various swimmers sponsors and then forwarded to our club Treasurer, a presentation evening will take place and invitations will be sent to all entrants of the 2011 'Swimathon'.

The total raised will not be known until all of the money is in however it is known that  70% of that sum will be presented to the teams taking part with 30% to Lions Charities.

Trophies for the most successful teams will also be awarded as shown below:

 (1) The TEAM raising the most sponsorship money

 (2) The INDIVIDUAL raising the most money through sponsorship and

 (3) The TEAM with the highest average per swimmer sponsorship money. (Minimum 4 in a team)

Eastbourne Lions Club greatly appreciates the help of:All swimmers who took part, The Eastbourne Voluntary Lifeguards for overseeing the safety of the swimmers and also our gratitude to the Eastbourne Leisure Trust for providing the venue.
